The University of Alberta is studying how offensive terms are being used on social media, in relation to the LGBTQ community. On Nohomophobes.com, the results can be monitored in real time, displaying the four most homophobic and commonly-used terms, along with the tweets that contain them.
Local activist Deirdre Pike has been keeping an eye on this website. Out of the four terms being used; faggot, dyke, no homo, and “that’s so gay”, the word faggot is used the most.

It was a cold night for an outdoor concert but that didn’t stop nearly twenty thousand people of all ages from showing up for the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train’s stop at Gage Park. Performing onstage for the occasion was Brothers Dube, Great Big Sea, Cynthia Dale and Natalie MacMaster, and Tom Cochrane with Red Rider. Peter Mansbridge hosted the event.
“Look at all the people,” said Mansbridge. “We’ve got thousands here in the park.”

Approximately 60 ball hockey players came together at Pier 8 on the Hamilton Waterfront on Saturday to celebrate Sports Day in Canada.
The game featured players from the Hamilton Red Wings Junior A Hockey Club, as well as the Ancaster Avalanche Junior B team, and the Burlington Bandits Intercounty Baseball League team.
Sports Day in Canada was held nationwide, with different events being held across the country. In Hamilton, the event was organized by Helen Downey, president of Sport Hamilton. She said with obesity on the rise, people need to get active.
