a banjo in his hands and his foot tapping a steady beat, Harrison Kennedy played some blues tunes to kick off the ceremony announcing the annual Hamilton Music Awards.
A veritable who’s who of Hamilton’s music scene gathered in the McIntyre Theatre for the official launch on Wednesday. Kennedy is nominated for four awards and will receive a lifetime achievement award at this year’s HMAs.
Comedian Shelley Marshall will once again co-host the awards show with musicologist Alan Cross. Marshall says the city’s small town feel makes Hamilton special.

Two years ago, Chantal Baker made a decision that would result in some major changes in her life. Upon graduating high school, Baker moved to Hamilton from her hometown of South Bend, Indiana to attend Mohawk College and play for the Mountaineers women’s volleyball team. Baker is currently enrolled in Mohawk’s Police Foundations program, and plans on pursuing a career in forensic psychology and eventually work in the FBI’s profiling department. Baker is just getting back into the rhythm of things while recovering from a shoulder injury sustained last season. …

Ah, the teen years. Sleeping in on Saturdays was the best, right? And what did you do when you woke up early and couldn’t get back to sleep?
You watched MuchMusic, obviously.
The teenaged version of watching Saturday morning cartoons used to be flipping on MuchMusic and watching whatever music videos came on.
But now, if you turn on the newly-renamed MUCH, you won’t see much music at all.
For example: this Saturday’s schedule includes just TWO shows that play music videos, while the rest is syndicated ‘90s TV, movies and Video On Trial.
