With the MSA elections underway the candidates are finishing up their campaigns this week.  Presidential hopeful, and current Vice-President of the Brantford campus Ryan Chow, says his focus is to bring the campuses together and create a more united Mohawk.

It was a morning of celebration and education as Mohawk College celebrated Black History Month. The ceremony included an interactive historical presentation as well as an African dance performance.
Bryan and Shannon Prince are involved with the Buxton National Historic Site and Museum located in Buxton, Ontario. The couple shared stories of black slaves and their journey from the southern States through the Underground Railroad to Canada. Bryan explained exactly what the Underground Railroad was.

Starting Tuesday, February 12th, polls will be open on Mocomotion for Mohawk College students to vote for their new  Mohawk Students’ Association representatives, including the next MSA President.
This year’s candidates are Ryan Chow, a Health, Wellness, and Fitness student and current Vice-President of the Brantford Campus; and Eddie Partito, an Architectural Technician student, and current Vice-President of the Fennell Campus.

It’s no secret that social media is becoming more prevalent in our society. However, it might be less known that social media is actively transforming how we get our news.
A 2011 study by the Canadian Media Research Consortium (CMRC), finds that nearly 60 per cent of Canadians regularly get their news from social media. The study also found that a majority of those people, who get their news from social media, found that it broadened the range of news and information they got compared to getting news from traditional sources.

The Bravery Bead campaign kicked off at the Ancaster Blood Donor Clinic this week. For the month of February, Canadian Blood Services and McMaster Children’s Hospital is partnering up to ask residents in the Hamilton area not only to donate blood, but to do a little more
“We’re having new donors come in the month of February and they can decorate a bead that will go back to a child who has received a blood transfusion at McMaster Children’s Hospital,” said Denise Saulnier, community development coordinator for Canadian Blood Services.

When it comes to fashion, you don’t have to be a PETA supporting tree-hugger to make some environmentally-conscious and animal-friendly decisions. Many companies offer eco-friendly and/or vegan products, while other companies, like Etnies, are starting to put out full eco-friendly lines.
Etnies currently has a ‘Buy a shoe plant a tree’ line for men and women, in which the company plants a tree in Brazil’s Atlantic Rainforest for every pair of shoes sold. The line also includes some vegan/animal-free styles.
