Mohawk advances to OCAA semis

The reigning provincial and national champions, the Mohawk Mountaineers, got off on the right foot with a 69-62 quarter final win over the Algonquin Thunder of Ottawa in the 2013 Belair Direct Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Championship at Seneca College in North York Thursday night (Feb. 28)

CCAA All-Canadian and OCAA West Division first all-star Manny Campbell scored 24 points, while another first team all-star, Andrew Cicuttini, had 15 points and nine rebounds to lead the Mountaineers, who trailed 41-36 at half time.

Romaine Lawrence had 17 points for Algonquin, while Thunder teammate Garnet Blais scored 16 and added 10 rebounds.

Mohawk advances to the semi-finals against host Seneca Sting Friday night at 8:00. Seneca defeated the Humber Hawks 89-77.

The other semi will pit the Fanshawe Falcons against the Sheridan Bruins Friday at 6:00 pm. Sheridan whipped the Centennial Colts 73-59, while Fanshawe blasted the George Brown Huskies 77-49 in the other quarter finals.
