Mohawk ‘ballers win awards

Mohawk point guard Manny Campbell picked up a pair of honours at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Championship awards ceremony at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites Toronto- Markham Thursday (Feb. 28). The Burlington native was named a First Team West Division All-Star and a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian. Campbell was among the OCAA’s top five players in steals with 57 and assists with 69. He averaged 13.7 points per game while contributing 76 rebounds and three blocks.
6’6 Forward Andrew Cicuttini of Dundas was also selected as a First Team All-Star. Cicuttini averaged 14.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.
Taylor Dowhaniuk, the 6’9 Centre from Dundas, was named the West Division’s Best Defensive Player of the Year. Dowhaniuk averaged 5.9 defensive rebounds and 3.6 blocked shots per game.
Shooting Guard Xzennis Brereton of Toronto made the West Division All-Rookie Team. Brereton averaged 7.0 points per game.
Meanwhile, at the Holiday Inn Toronto International Airport, Mohawk Centre Lacey Wolters was selected to the OCAA Women’s West Division All-Rookie Team. Wolters, from Kingsville, averaged 9.1 points per game for the Mountaineers. She also pulled down 7.7 rebounds per game.
