Mohawk College students showed their school spirit and fitness Friday afternoon by defeating McMaster University in the MyHamilton Amazing Race.
The race had students running all over downtown Hamilton, completing challenges, and using the MyHamilton app to share their experiences throughout the city’s core.
Three teams of four students from Mohawk and McMaster registered to take part in the race. They started at the Staircase Theatre on Dundurn Street before racing off to a variety of locations including the Hamilton Farmer’s Market and Tourism Hamilton before finishing at the Design Annex on James Street North.
Teams Tweeted their progress from the MyHamilton app with the hashtag, “MyHamilton.”
Mohawk’s Team Clutch took no chances in racing from one local business to another, and ended up winning the event. Clutch team member and Mohawk student Chris Duffey says the race helped show him more place to go in downtown Hamilton.
“Everybody was a lot more friendlier than I expected,” he said.
Alex Battick, a member of McMaster’s Illumacnati team, says he had a great experience with the MyHamilton race as well.
“I’m going to walk away knowing that Hamilton has a lot more to offer than I thought,” he said.
Kathy Woo, a social media and digital communication leader from McMaster’s Student Success Centre says the event was a big accomplishment and gave Mohawk and McMaster more ideas for events.
“We have many different ideas now, even maybe a ghost walk theme for students,” she said.
