The pay it forward SOS group at Mohawk College has taken another step forward in the right direction. The student group hosted their Say it Play it Pay it Forward event in the community on September 25th and raised over seven hundred dollars for the movement.

Hundreds of runners took part in the second annual Strides for the General race at Bayfront Park on September 22.
 
The charity race raised $135,500 for Hamilton General Hospital, and featured over 600 participants this year, up from 200 last year.
 
Hamilton General president Teresa Smith says the money “will buy some equipment that’s much needed for the Hamilton General, so (they) can provide great care.”
 
Smith also said she expects participation to increase as the event gets older.

Mohawk College reached a record high for enrolment this fall with 6500 first-year students – six per cent more than last year.
“The hike in population isn’t a surprise,” said Fred Nickner, Mohawk’s Registrar. “ As Mohawk has definitely taken their recruitment and admissions effort more seriously.”
Much of those recruitment efforts are focused on the college’s advertising campaigns like “FutureReady,” which is displayed around the world.
 
Mohawk has recruited 1100 international students this semester alone; many of these students are from China, India and Nigeria.

With a new school year already in motion it’s been a record-breaking year for full time student and semester one enrollment at Mohawk. The enrollment numbers showed a jump in full time enrollments of more than six per cent over last year, with over 13,000 full time students registered to attend the College.

Last year, Mohawk installed four small wind turbines outside the H-wing as a part of the Fennell Campus Renewal Project. Recently, two larger turbines were added in the same area.
