The Christmas spirit was definitely in the air in downtown Hamilton, even without any snow on the ground.

Only one person could make people react this way

Crowds lined the streets of Hamilton’s downtown core for the annual Santa Claus parade, a chance to formally usher in the Christmas season.

Collette Anderson came to the parade for the first time with her toddler daughter Mikayla. Anderson says she wants to being incorporating it into her Christmas routine.

“We love it. It’s our tradition from now on. It’s good to be here,” she said.

Mohawk student Sebastian Caro watched the parade from the top of Jackson Square.

“It was good,” he said, “There was lots of entertainment for the kids and all the candy.”

Mrs. Claus took on a bit of an organizing role, making sure all the floats were ready to go. She said the parade is special for everyone.

“I just loved it, to be able to spread the Christmas cheer, not just to the children, but to the adults too.”

It wouldn’t be a Santa Claus parade without an appearance by the guest of honour. Santa waved to crowds from his sleigh pulled by eight model reindeer, complete with a flashing red nose on Rudolph.

Santa had some advice for the youngsters in attendance.

“You must be good in school. Be good for your mom and dad, and get to bed nice and early on Christmas Eve.”
