The days may be getting longer, but there still don’t seem to be enough hours in the day for many students to get all of their end-of-the-year assignments done. That equals stress – big time. But there are ways to deal with it.

Hundreds of people cheer as brightly-clad acrobats fly across the stage of the McIntyre Theatre. The flurry of red and yellow was part of a wushu demonstration, just one of many performances at the International Student Celebration at Mohawk College.
The ceremony aimed to reward and recognize the school’s growing international student population. Hosted in the McIntyre Theatre on April 2nd, the event featured performances by musicians, dance groups and martial artists.

“Eight years ago I had a fully loaded pistol in my mouth, ready to pull the trigger,” said former Calgary Flames great Theoren Fleury to a crowd of student-journalists at Mohawk College. ”Now here I am today, my life is manageable, because I can be honest.”
Speaking candidly, Fleury answered questions about his struggles with mental illness and sexual abuse.

Last week, executives from the Mohawk Students’ Association (MSA) and the president’s office, including President Rob MacIsaac, banded together to judge the top 12 ideas for the first MSA Gives Back competition.
In February, the MSA decied to put forth a $50,000 investment in student ideas to improve the school in some way—the boundaries were very loose. President Rob MacIsaac’s office liked the idea so much they decided to match the MSA’s offer, bringing the grand total to $100,000.

The sun was shining and the maple syrup was flowing this weekend at Bronte Creek Provincial Park for the 16th annual maple syrup festival.
Families young and old got to travel back to the 1890’s and learn how maple syrup was made during that time and is still made at the park today.
“We specialize in the Victorian time period…you get a chance to look back and see what life might’ve been like one hundred years ago,” said Sheila Wiebe, the parks Natural Heritage Education Specialist.
