Approximately 60 ball hockey players came together at Pier 8 on the Hamilton Waterfront on Saturday to celebrate Sports Day in Canada.
The game featured players from the Hamilton Red Wings Junior A Hockey Club, as well as the Ancaster Avalanche Junior B team, and the Burlington Bandits Intercounty Baseball League team.
Sports Day in Canada was held nationwide, with different events being held across the country. In Hamilton, the event was organized by Helen Downey, president of Sport Hamilton. She said with obesity on the rise, people need to get active.

The Hamilton Media Guild is the newest division of Hamilton Hive; the city’s widely successful young professional community, and will be hosting its official launch party on Wednesday, December 4th. The air was bitter cold, the ground frozen and Gage Park was packed with men, women and children. Most nights this would be a cause for misery but one train made it all worthwhile. It wasn’t just another cargo train rolling through Hamilton, it was the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train that rolls across North America each year.

The sounds of dodge balls, people and music could be heard throughout the Mohawk athletic center as six teams competed in the second annual “Duck Dodge Donate” dodge ball tournament to raise money for the Salvation Army. Each team brought ten dollars per player, five canned goods or clothing donations.
The Police Foundations students who organized the event chose dodge ball because it was fun way to have a fundraiser.

Downtown Burlington transformed into a winter wonderland as the city opened its 18th annual Festival of Lights.
Street lamps, trees, storefronts and all of Civic Square were covered in twinkling Christmas decorations. Civic Square is also where hundreds of people gathered to begin the candlelit stroll. Each person was handed a candle, supplied by Smith’s Funeral Home located just a block down the street. “It hurts to know that I could be looked at as a criminal because of other peoples’ misconceptions,” Alex Robertson reflected while dragging on a cigarette.
The premiere screening at The Workers Art and Heritage Centre of the Hamilton film project Unlocking HIV challenged some of the stereotypes surrounding the virus and exposed flaws around attitudes to HIV.

The annual Hamilton – Niagara’s Top Employers survey has recognized Mohawk College as one of the top ten employers in the region.
Now entering its eighth year, the title recognizes regional employers in Ontario that offer exceptional places to work. Electronic entrepreneurs gathered at McMaster University’s pub TwelvEighty for DemoCamp 14 on Monday night. The event allows local experts to present their newest apps. Many students were on hand to check out the new offerings.
DemoCamp organizer Kevin Browne says it gives app creators a chance to get feedback on their products. It also gives them a chance to talk to other app creators as well, “It’s basically just a big communal learning environment for the tech sector.”

Even before World AIDS Day on December first, Mohawk College took an early lead with a documentary and a speaker forum. The event, organized by Social Inc. and the Hamilton AIDS Network, brought together students and teachers at the McIntyre Performing Arts Centre to educate students and eliminate the stigma of HIV.
