Hamilton is one step closer to hosting the 44th Annual JUNO Awards in March 2015.
City council unanimously supported the decision to host the ceremony at a meeting of the General Issues Committee on October 16. A report prepared by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences was presented to council highlighting the benefits of hosting.
These include the opportunity to develop Hamilton’s music industry, increased exposure to local artists, media exposure, tourism and economic spinoff.

Mohawk College welcomed and celebrated new Canadians Wednesday at its annual community citizenship ceremony, held in partnership with the Institute for Canadian Citizenship and Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
Native elder Elize Hartley performed a traditional smudge ceremony, to start the ceremony. Citizenship Judge Ted Salci administrated the oath of citizenship and gave 40 people from 11 countries their long-awaited Canadian citizenship papers.

The City of Hamilton does not want to be on the hook for the expansion of the Police Services Taser program.
“I’m just baffled by this,” said Ward 9 Councillor Brad Clark.
The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services announced in August that all front-line officers in Ontario should carry Tasers . But it isn’t clear who is to pay for the new equipment.

The auditorium is half empty, but those who walk in appear to be a mix of triumphant and anxious. Onstage, behind a podium, a mixture of Mohawk staff and two decorated war veterans wait respectfully. The crowd soon falls silent, until today’s guests ascend to the stage in small groups to get what they came for.
Mohawk College hosted the Canadian Citizenship Ceremony on Wednesday. In front of a judge and assorted students, 40 new Canadians were officially welcomed to the country.

The income inequality gap in Hamilton continues to rise, with over 90,000 residents living below the poverty line.
The Social Planning and Research Council (SPRC) organized an event this week at the Lincoln Alexander Centre called, “The Rich and the Rest of Us.” At the event, the SPRC released a report on income inequality in the region and held a panel discussion on trends in poverty. Panelists included Senior Social Planner Dierdre Pike and union representative James Clancy.

The centre of the school, where the H, C, F, E, and I wings all meet—also home to Starbucks and the Learning Support Centre—was scattered with seemingly lost students milling around Thursday morning. This hub overlooking the College’s courtyard on Fennell Ave. is usually a place where students sit to work or take breaks between classes, but early in the morning all of those seats disappeared without a trace.
The seats were taken to make room for Friday’s convocation, set to take place between 2:00pm and 10:00pm. In the corridor, there …
