[17 Sep 2013 | Comments Off on Show and Shine for a cause | ]

Sun gleamed off the painstakingly-waxed vehicles of every make, model, and year while the smell of gasoline and motor oil filled the air at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada’s (TMMC) North plant.  The parking lot, usually filled with employees’ daily drivers was full of classic collectables and modified imports for the second annual Toyota Show and Shine.
“We’re a car company first and foremost, so I know there’s a lot of cool cars in the shop,” said Gary Gravelle, originator and head organizer of the Show and Shine.  “It’s just a matter …

[17 Sep 2013 | Comments Off on What I did at Supercrawl | ]

Abraham gets up close and personal with the crowd. (Photo: Noah Salo)
I thought about reviewing Supercrawl for one second. Then I realized that would be insane. How does one attempt to capture the feeling of two days worth of concerts, art displays, food trucks and vendors all held on a downtown street? It’s literally impossible for one person to experience everything there is to experience at Supercrawl, so I won’t offer a review. Instead I will tell you my story about what I did at Supercrawl, and you can tell …

[17 Sep 2013 | Comments Off on Review: Dexter: Monkey in a box | ]

Goodbye Dr. Evelyn Vogel, wish I could say sorry to see you go, but when you try to reconcile with your son years after you locked him away for murdering your other son (and at least a dozen others) against any sort of sane judgment … you kind of deserve to get your throat cut. That was a bit harsh, but hey, it happened. As for this week’s episode it was a cat and mouse game between Saxon and Dexter and it wasn’t Dexter at its peak. At its best, …

[13 Sep 2013 | Comments Off on Review: Insidious, Chapter 2 | ]

Horror sequels are rarely very good. Great horror movies are pretty rare to begin with, and when you consider how inferior sequels generally are to their originals, it’s remarkable when any horror sequel isn’t simply terrible. Insidious, Chapter 2 is one of the best of the last decade or so.
The first Insidious was the best horror movie of 2011. It was essentially just a haunted-house movie, but it was so good at earning legitimate scares, it rose high above its standard plot and borrowed ideas. The original movie ended with …

Wait, what?
Ever had an awkward question about relationships or dating? Didn’t want to ask your friends or – God forbid – your parents?
Dating and relationships are hard. Juggling them with school is even harder. This column is designed to give Mohawk students a chance to speak out and be heard, as well as ask questions and get advice.
College students have a lot on their plates, and some of it is pretty confusing. We’re not here to help you with your homework, or help you decide whether to go to pub. …

[10 Sep 2013 | Comments Off on Comment: Wake up and smell the steam | ]

Everyone remembers the “satellite conversation” between two correspondents during the Cleveland Kidnapping case not too long ago.  The correspondents were in the same parking lot and were caught because viewers pointed out that the same traffic was appearing behind one correspondent and then the other within seconds of being on screen.  This was ripped apart by Jon Stewart on the Daily Show and had people laughing for days.  Recently though, CNN has had gear-heads the world over laughing.
After 26 years, turbocharged V-6 engines will be returning to Formula One Racing …
