It may not be much of a surprise to some, but a new study shows students who multi-task on their laptops during lectures do not absorb as much information as students who do not multi-task.
The study had a group of students, some with laptops, some without, sit in a lecture-style environment. Once the lecture was over, students were given tasks to complete based on the lecture material. Those who paid full attention during the lecture performed much better than those who were taking notes on their computers.

It seems a bit ironic that Caffeine Awareness Month happened at the same month as Tim Horton’s famous Roll up the Rim campaign. According to Health Canada, adult Canadians should consume no more than 400 milligrams of caffeine per day. This amount equals about three small cups of coffee. Despite the fact we are a java driving society, and have over four coffee shops on campus alone (including two Timmies), the Mohawk community seems to be trying to limit its intake.

For most students, having access to the tools they need to learn is not a major concern. But for some students it is the biggest hurdle standing between them and an education. Accessibility Awareness Day brought these issues to everyone’s attention.
Besides educating students, the day also looked at the different ways in which some people learn. On display at the event were several of the tools that fall into the adaptive or assisted technology categories.
